On a conference call with reporters on Monday, the former McKinsey consultant said his department was "accelerating and augmenting our ongoing lines of effort on rail regulation and inspection," whatever that means. Buttigieg also attacked Sen. Marco Rubio (R., Fla.) and others who have criticized his slow response to the Feb. 3 train derailment and his refusal to visit East Palestine to survey the damage.
"I am very interested in getting to know the residents of East Palestine, hearing from them about how they’ve been impacted and communicating with them about the steps that we’re taking," Buttigieg said on the conference call. "When the time is right, I do plan to visit East Palestine. I don’t have a date for you right now."

Maybe he should just show up because that's one of the most important aspects of leadership.
Leadership is about more than just telling people what to do. It's about setting an example and showing up in a way that inspires others to follow your lead.
This means showing up even when things get tough or when you don't feel like it. If you're not willing to put in the effort and show up consistently, it's unlikely that others will look to you as a leader.
While leadership is not just about showing up, showing up in a way that inspires others to follow your lead IS a critical part of it.

So he is only able to speak out on the tragedy after he is criticised for not doing so? Maybe the GOP should criticize him on other parts of his job.

I’m between a rock and a hard place on the “showing up at a tragedy” business. On one hand, I feel it’s just pandering for the sympathy factor, and on the other hand it’s necessary to get an on-site handle on the situation. The sympathy end has been blown out of proportion due to the multitude of situations the (the Pols) show up at and give the same heart-felts at all of them. It makes me wonder if they actually give a crap, and this isn’t limited to the Left as they ALL do it.
