Russia still uses a draft: (from google) "As of 2021, all male citizens aged 18–27 are subject to conscription for 1 year of active duty military service in armed forces, but the precise number of conscripts for each of the recruitment campaigns, which are usually held twice annually, is prescribed by particular Presidential Decree."

1 year doesn't make a lot of sense. New recruit barely knows his L from his R and it's time to hang up the uniform.

I remember draftees counting the days to civilian life in the reception station before we were even assigned BCT units at Jackson.

Good points. US tanks work with infantry as part of combined arms. They also have tech to mitigate usage of drones or smart weapons.

LTC Eugene Chu - Lets hope so. Drones are more about spotting and can be outfitted with an array of sensors - IR, UV, thermal, etc. So even a "stealth" tank will have to work hard not to be seen. Once seen and fixed, they can be eliminated with indirect fire that may originate far beyond the range of the tank's main gun.

On the future battlefield, it may be that their operational relevance is waning. Easy to see and easy to hit and get taken out by a dispersed force armed with Javelin type systems which will only improve in range and lethality. The modicum of protection their armor affords is being negated. I think this was one of the main factors that caused the Marine Corps to give up their tanks altogether.
