We lost that war long ago. We must find a new approach because all the old ones don't work.

LTC David Brown - Thank you and I am sorry for your loss also. My stepdaughter died and an immediate family member is on the street. It's most difficult when you want to help and can't do a damn thing other than to hang on and hope for a good tomorrow. You give them anything and you feed their habit, you don't give them anything and they starve. It's a fine line.

SFC (Join to see) - I certainly do not have an answer, but I do know the actions of the past did not work. I believe drug addiction is a disease and should be treated as such. Not as a crime.

MSG Stan Hutchison - Good morning Stan. I believe you are partially right. Drug addition of people who are not mentally ill in the first place, is not an illness at that point in time. These people know right from wrong before the drugs turn them punch drunk, at the punch drunk point in time they are ill.

The beginning of drug addiction use needs to be discouraged or we will turn into a society of drug induced zombies who can’t support themselves. Too many of our society become like that and our Country falls apart into Totalitarianism. Now think about all the good hearted policies that were put in place from free housing, to safe areas to shoot up, to allowing public camping along roads and parks. Are these policies encouraging drug use or deterring it. From what I see on the streets these policies are encouraging drug use.

The big question is why do politicians make policy and programs that encourage drug use? The simple answer is the policies and programs make the people dependent on the politicians and provide a good voter base. Having people clear headed and independent doesn’t guarantee that person will vote for you every time. I respectively submit it is that simple, and evil.

Back to the beginning of drug addition where the problem is made or broke. How to foster people into becoming good citizens who have the motivation to sustain themselves and their families? This is where the battle will be won or lost. If a practice is bad for society it needs to be made illegal, that’s where law and law enforcement comes in. The answers are not all one way or another, there needs to be a mix or solutions and judgement needs to be used. The people who have redeeming social value need to be identified and rehabilitated with a mix of law enforcement and programs that make them self sufficient “that does not include any drug use”, Zero. Programs that use drugs like Methadone to combat drug abuse have shown they don’t work and are abused by drug addicts to sustain there drug life style. Ask any family member or friend of a drug addict who is involved in their life trying to help them and we can explain how these drug programs are abused. Sadly, these drug programs only allow tax money to flow into the pharmaceuticals. These programs make Progressives feel good because typically they believe they can buy there way out of any problem, and then close their eyes when the problem doesn’t go away.

As I said before, these people who can be redeemed need to be placed into real programs where they are required to work and attend classes in an atmosphere where they are monitored 24-7 until they can sustain themselves. This is intense time and money dependent work that can rehabilitate drug addicts that required sustained work, not just throwing money at it a wishing it will go away. Sadly our politicians look for a quick fix that will put tax money into drug companies AND make people vote for them. These are the same politicians that send their children to expensive drug treatment programs, but for the common people say: Here, take a week’s worth of Methadone, stay on the street and come back next week for more.

Sadly one of the most difficult part to talk about are the drug addicts who can’t be redeemed, and there are many out there. The only answer for them is to institutionalize them to a facility that will take care of them until they die. We had many fair to good facilities that did this work but over the last 30 years politicians have closed most of them down using the justification they can receive just as good treatment on an out patient basis. I hope these politicians burn in hell.

The criminals and drug addicts that deal in drugs at every level need to be prosecuted and placed in jail for very long times. Everything needs to be on the table to defeat the problem of drug addiction.

OMG! Stan, I am sorry to have gone on for so long. Once I get wound up on this I just keep going. Sorry.
