SPC Jeff Daley, PhD Entering the military to gain access to gender surgery sounds like a fraudulent enlistment to me.

There's two trans soldiers in my unit that I know about and it hasn't affected their capacity to serve in any way. The whole "not be deployable for medical reasons..." and? Lots of people are non deployable for medical reasons for a time period. Also we aren't deploying at a rate we used to during Iraq and Afghanistan. In fact I know at least one of these soldiers has gone to overseas exercises. No issues.

In fact transgender health care is less than 1% of the DoD health budget. Less than 1%. It's not an issue. Transgender servicemembers aren't an issue. They aren't degrading readiness. No one is "picking up the slack" for them. JFC this is the same bullshit argument I heard about letting women be in combat MOSs. The ignorance is astounding.

The information referred to was assembled by a multidisciplinary research team composed of experts in areas including military personnel policy, psychiatry, the military health system, health economics, military readiness, unit cohesion, and lessons learned from previous integration efforts in the military. Most of the members of the team had M.D.s or PhD.s, and two members of the research team were combat veterans.

A myriad of questions was addressed in this study including 1) the health care needs, medical standards, and treatment options for gender dysphoria that were current and endorsed by professional medical associations including the American Medical Association, American Psychological Association, and American Association of Family Physicians.

2) What are the potential readiness implications of allowing transgender service members to serve?

3) What are the potential readiness implications of allowing transgender service members to serve? This is just a sample of what was addressed in the study for the DOD.

The results have been made available and given to the DOD.

I can understand your passion for the subject but to call the results born out of ignorance is not applicable.

While our military does not have a high number of personnel overseas during the fighting in Iraq/Afghanistan we still have ~165K deployed overseas and this does not include active combat deployments such as those in Syria and Yemen.
