This is practically in my backyard. What really flames my butt is that these chemical weapons could have been destroyed 20 years ago if a couple of the Local NIMBY's hadn't got their panties in a wad and protested them using the method we used everywhere else in the country but one, and the method most of the world has used too. So twenty years to find, engineer and build that facility while that stuff set over there in bunkers leaking.

CSM Chuck Stafford - There were a number of delays and cost overruns. The actual plant planning didn't start until 2009 and there was another 3 year period trying to find a method that satisfied the Mimby's, none of whom had any clue about the weapons or the process used to destroy them previously. The plant was supposed to be finished in 2016 with destruction starting in 2018. That process didn't start until 2021 and just finishing the Nerve Gas. Still have to deal with the Mustard Gas, which is supposedly easier to neutralize. So 14 years from construction to the first milestone, plus the 3 years of planning.
