1LT (Join to see) This is something I heard from my former students that joined the military. They said they were promised MOS XXXX but ended up as a XXXX. Recruiters promise anything to get the prospective recruit to sign but then they vanish like a fart in the wind. These students tell their peers not to join. This isn't all of the problem but it is an issue. And when they ask me I tell them the truth. I was promised aviation electronics (the recruiter said I had the scores for it) but ended up as a combat engineer. Being a dumb trusting seventeen year old who didn't know better I didn't get it in writing. I did my time and exited and went to school to get my electronics degree.

Recruiting always suffer when the economy is expanding and unemployment is low. I see many speculate about the causes, but I see little evidence in support of "culture and character" based theories. People hammering the culture and character based theories often have an axe to grind and will attribute almost any problem to the same nebulous causes and then turn around and blame hurricanes on God's anger at gay people.

I appreciate your voice on this. I think bias is something to keep in mind. I primarily consider the culture as a problem, but it's anecdotal from my view, not empirical. I am open to being proven wrong.

Recruiters aren't working too hard around here. I've called for 3-months to get an Air Force window sticker for my truck. They don't carry them anymore, I was told. Marine Corps came through though.
