"Gen-Xers are fast approaching retirement age, but the data indicate that the vast majority are not even close to having enough savings to retire," NIRS Executive Director Dan Doonan said in a statement.

This is scary, but I don't doubt it. Believe the problem will only get worse as our society becomes more and more reliant on debt/credit versus saving for things we want. While there are certainly issues with the cost of living, I think the lack of self-control and patience is more troubling.
