Around here, I can always tell that a mask wearer will get into a vehicle with a Biden sticker on it.

I rarely wear a mask. But that does not mean that when I *do* wear a mask it is pointless or useless.
I wear a mask at their request when visiting with people. Even if it has no HEALTH effect, it has a SOCIAL effect. And as a state employee going into other people's homes for official business, that is important.
I wear a mask even without request when visiting people who are particularly prone to sickness or immune compromised. Even if it is only 10% effective, that 10% is still worth it.
Finally, I wear a mask when directed to do so within medical facilities. Once again, the social benefit is worth it. Wearing a mask costs me nothing. Very mild discomfort in exchange for getting along with others and with providers. Yes, and argument can absolutely be made for freedom, for noble resistance, etc. I prefer to side with the argument of not being a dick.

I deal with it like the old adage ’No Shirts, No Shoes, No Service’. Just figure now mask are in the equation.

SFC Casey O'Mally - I wouldn't fight anyone over it. Like I said, in a medical environment I have no issue with wearing one. But if a business requires one for me to shop, I will find another place to shop.

SFC Casey O'Mally - I understand what you say: to be respectful of others, especially if it’s in your job description. The mind set, psychology, whatever one wishes to call it does help in their specific situation. A positive mental attitude always helps. If you are visiting someone with a verified medical need, I would hope you are wearing a N95 mask that has a proper seal, possibly more depending on how severe the illness/condition is.
Hey, don’t shoot the messenger here! I am just pointing out the scientific fact that if a poor control measure like a no standard cloth mask only filters out 30% of a virus, it is mathematically indifferent if any wear the mask because the virus will still go through the population like a hot knife through butter.
The more serious issue we need to address is that there are that many people in our society who believe the lies they’ve been fed by our federal government. The plain fact is for a pandemic these cloth masks just don’t help, and the fear generated by the lies they believe have far more negative consequences for their health. MHO

SFC Casey O'Mally - I forgot to add this to what I wrote:

Types of Masks and How Effective They Are
Health organizations suggest that people wear masks and face coverings for protection against COVID-19. Different masks have different effectiveness levels.

The only fact that is sad is how this became a political issue and remains so, perpetrated by those on the right.
And the millions of folks that died from the virus.

MSG Stan Hutchison - Stan, you are the Energizer Bunny. It’s very simple: when the natural openings in a cloth mask are larger than the virus, you are going to get the virus. You may ask why the 30% to 40% effective rate of masks. It was explained to me by my doctor that sometimes moisture molecules, or whatever they call them, get attached to the virus, that then makes it larger than the opening and it can’t get through. To me it makes sense of my limited understanding of viruses and a better understanding of materials.
What I am explaining to you is that the effective percentage of the masks aren’t “estimates” they are fact, with science and engineering behind them. Like I said before, it’s you right to believe anything you want to. You are commenting on my post and can stop anytime you wish. As my post I have a duty to respond to all comments. When you think about it, effectively you are calling me a liar that you don’t believe anything of what I take the time to explain about. That’s not nice. When I can’t beat someone in a subject, I just ride off into the sunset… silently.
