I kinda see some potential questions when dealing with adults. There should be none with children. Wherever that age cut-off should be.

CMSgt Marcus Falleaf I don't see a problem with it being an option for any age. But just like the death penalty for murder, just because it is an option, does not mean it is always the appropriate sentence.

There is no level or type of rape which is OK. Nonetheless, not all rapes are the same. There is a big difference, at least as far as I am concerned, between a consensual act between a 17 year old and a 25 year old and holding someone at gunpoint and... well, doing worse from there. I won't go into details, because I am sure we can all fill in the blanks and I don't want to trigger anyone (plus I feel icky even typing that much, let alone typing more). Some rapes are particularly heinous - and death should be an option in sentencing, regardless of whether the victim was 8, 18, or 98.

Just my $0.02.

SFC Casey O'Mally - In what world is it ok that a 25 year old goes after a 17 year old? Idgaf if the age of consent to sex is 16, 17 in some states. There is no world where a full grown ass adult should be having sex with ANY MINORS. I don't even think a 25 year old and an 18 year old is an appropriate age gap. Wtf does a 25 year old have in common with a teenager? Nothing. In no way, shape or form when I was 25 did I ever find a 17 year old or 18 year old attractive. At this point in my life anyone more than 5 years younger than me is a child. It's not happening. It's weird.

Grown adults - men OR women - who go after teenagers are predators. It's grooming. That's what they're doing when someone in their 20s, 30s, 40s goes after teenagers. Ask anyone who has ever been in that kind of age gap relationship where they were the younger person and they say they regret it and if they could go back they'd have never done it.

If my daughter, when 17, ever brings home someone who is 25 that person better gtfo out of my house and not come back.

SFC (Join to see) Where did i say that was OK? Nowhere. Didn't happen. Not once. I very specifically stated that no type or level of rape is OK.

As far as age gaps go, in general, women mature ( mentally and emotionally) at a younger age than men. A 25 YO man can have a LOT in common with an 18 YO woman. On the flip side, men reach their sexual peak FAR earlier than women. A 40 YO woman may not have much in common with an 18 YO male, but she might have one VERY IMPORTANT thing in common.

I have been on both sides of a May-December relationship. And neither I nor either of my romantic partners felt in anyway used, degraded, unsatisfied, or icky. Your prejudice is not only hypocritical, it's WRONG.

How is this going to deter all the child rapists who never get caught and then never get prosecuted? This literally doesn't protect any kids or anyone.

Again Republicans are all talk about "pro life" and literally do nothing to protect anyone's lives. Just a big ol nothing burger right there with that law. Not surprised.

The death penalty doesn't deter anyone from committing capital crimes and it costs more than life in prison without parole.
