I have an unusual family history. The first of the Family Name fought on both sides of the Revolution. He was originally a Hessian captured at Trenton, recaptured/exchanged back to the British under Cornwallis, deserted and joined the Americans. Some indication he was at Kings Mountain, but Militia records outside of the "organized" militias was spotty at best. Same story with my wife's family. We know that a number of her ancestors served then, but exactly where can be sketchy.
