It is extremely common in combatants due to repeated combat excursions.

Complex PTSD is created from prolonged periods of having to deal with intense traumatic experiences and an inability to make sense of them. The form of PTSD that most people are familiar with is an anxiety disorder that stems from one isolated event like a car crash or natural disaster. Still, Complex PTSD is more associated with an entire period of traumatic time taking place in one’s life.

Hi Charlie. One component with any of the reasons for a PTSD diagnosis is that the trauma is so horrendous that making sense of the trauma is impossible. One cannot make any sense of deeply traumatic events. Thus, the PTSD patient will "fabricate" irrational reasons for the trauma. One of the goals of PTSD treatment is the deal with a patient's irrational "fabrications." A second goal of PTSD treatment is to help the patient to come to the understanding that there ARE no rational reasons or explanations for the trauma beyond the word "war," "accident," "illness," or "parent-less-ness."

Hi Sheri. I'm just now seeing your post. It's a good one.
I've seen several videos that define CPTSD as coming from physical, emotional, verbal, and sexual abuse of children (only, or without any other adult cohort under the CPTSD diagnosis). I tend to agree with this definition of CPTSD.
One of the PTSD treatment groups in which I participated was very interesting. Everyone of us, when we presented our specific traumas, said that we had experienced child abuse and then experienced adult situations in which we were later diagnosed with PTSD.
The literature suggests that those who tend to experience situations whereby PTSD is diagnosed also, first, had experienced childhood traumatic situations.
A good survey question to post here on RallyPoint would be something like the following: Did those RP members who have received a PTSD diagnosis secondary to adult experiences also experience childhood traumatic experiences? yes __ no__
I think I'll pose this question as a separate post.
