..."This scary incident involving General Smith shows why it’s supremely risky to play politics with military appointments, as Sen. Tuberville is doing,” Schumer said on the Senate floor Tuesday. “Emergencies happen, and when they do, the chain of command must be able to respond but thanks to Senator Tuberville, there is no current number two at the Marine Corps to fill in.”...

Schumer could have called for a vote at any time. He chose not to.

Tuberville could have stopped his blockage of military promotions and we would not have this debacle.

LTC Eugene Chu the mass passage requires unanimous consent. Tubwrville does not consent. It is that simple. Without unanimous consent, it is then incumbent on Schumer to prioritize and call votes. He has chosen not to do so.

The ONLY reason this is an issue is because Tuberville has chosen to state his reason for not consenting - which he is not required to do - and because Democrats don't like his reasoning.

But Tuberville is blocking absolutely nothing. He has presented a speed bump, not a road block. Schumer chose to stop at the speed bump because he thinks he can score political points by CALLING IT a road block.
