Cpl Vic Burk - Cost v benefit nothing beats public school. My son wants to attend the USAFA and they look at total person and the band and sports alone at the public schools make a huge difference and you just cannot get the competition numbers anywhere else. He is trying out for region band next week and state in HS.

A fun statistic is that 20% of the public school teachers with school age children send them to private schools. Some cities have teachers sending their children to private schools at a much higher rate. 41% for Cincinnati, 39% for Chicago.

CPT Lawrence Cable I know the enrollment in private schools is up and several teachers at my school send their children to private elementary schools. Most then bring them to the public high school. One of the main advantages of a private school is they get to select and choose the students they serve. The troublemakers get kicked out so they have much less discipline problems where as at a public school we have to put up with it.

Cpl Vic Burk - I disagree. The private schools in this area and most of this state aren't elite academies for the rich. they are religion based schools. Here the Catholic
school and the First Christian Church are the two largest and neither requires membership in the Church to attend. The biggest change since Covid has been these schools are starting to emphasis their academic program and most have really up their game in that department.
I would suggest that the discipline in the private school is better because 1. The parents are directly invested in the results. 2. Those schools are not restricted by teachers unions and school boards and can actually have a realistic program. You're a Marine (I started to say were), would you try to maintain order in a Marine Corp unit the way most public school attempt? I'm not even advocating spanking.
My absolute pet peeve is Remedial. In the Army (and I suspect the Marines) remedial means that you do extra on your off time until you can meet the standard. In public schools, it's a sentence to be substandard the rest of your school years.
The statistic locally on Teachers sending their children to private schools ran about 30% the last I checked. The local schools aren't horrible, but still 3 out of 10 teachers don't send their kids to them.
