House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) announced a “two-step” short-term spending measure to avoid a government shutdown.
The plan reportedly would give certain federal agencies money through the middle of January while others would get funds through early February, allowing lawmakers in the House and Senate more time to hash out longer-term spending legislation. The deadline is November 17.

Glad someone is being frugal for a change. Pass everything one bill at a time and earn your pay.

I am not fond of this idea, fund the government or get out of the way.
IMHO, we need to change the process. I'd like to see something like funding should be on a "Not Less than 179 day" schedule, and funding negotiations must be concluded NLT two weeks prior to scheduled deadline or all House Reps would be determined Ineligible for re-election at their next election cycle. Let them pay the price for not enacting a budget instead of the Millions of citizens.
