Personally I think the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program has the right idea in this sense: no one martial art is the end all be all, but rather let's combine the most effective parts of as many martial arts as can be used and train Marines on how to use them. Tan belt MCMAP for instance is all the stuff the WW2 Marine Raiders learned. Gray belt feels like an info overload, but is the intro to the other belts (Green, Brown, Black). Green is the closest to any martial art in particular between throws, choke holds, strikes, etc. Brown gets more into grappling but also hits up engaging multiple adversaries as effectively as possible. Black belt? Well at that point you're stopping bullets. Just kidding. If you look up black belt MCMAP videos on YouTube it's basically mastery of everything you already learned with appropriate variations. A few senior Marines still in probably remember A-Line which was some very unforgiving (for the adversary) hand to hand combat.

LTC Eugene Chu more realistic in fighting for your life...
"The United States Modern Army Combatives Program was established in 1995 and served as a replacement for substandard soldier training. Modern Army Combatives (MACP) takes the intensity of MMA-style fighting and applies it in real world situations, preparing American soldiers for the deadliest hand to hand combat."
