All I can say is that homeowners should claim ignorance of an intruder being a squatter.

"Under New York's castle doctrine, people have a right to protect their homes with deadly force if they reasonably believe that someone is entering without permission and is seeking to commit a crime"

SFC John D. - Here on Guam, we have the same with the Castle Doctrine, and now in my opinon, it's working, not to many trespasing issues as it was once before. But we still do have some issues, but not at my house. Lol
In 1977 I had my house built 3' higher off ground level, to keep wondering eyes from looking in the windows. And, I shoot better from the higher ground. Lol
Some asked why I did that, I tell them, in the 70's, heroin was the chosen durg on the streets, and there was an everyday issue with theft, and tresspassing, in those days. There were murders every month, but the good thing was, drug dealers and users were killing each other, doing the government a favor. I became a young COP in 77, after gettng out of the army, a fun time.
