And these schools wonder why more and more parents are opting to homeschool their kids (we're one of those families)...

Of course, besides doing our best to combat open and inconspicuous indoctrination we get the following by homeschooling:
Flexible schedules. If we decide to up and go somewhere that's both fun and a learning experience we can do it with minimum fuss. Same goes for doctor appointments.

There's no progression to the next level of any subject until the current level has been mastered. All of my kiddos are Grade A students compared to their peers.

Whatever they want to be when they grow up we can initiate that focus. My oldest wants to be the first human to walk on Mars, and in my opinion that is absolutely plausible based on our current progress in terms of science and technology.

There isn't a lack of socializing among similar - aged kids as they're signed up for seemingly all the stuff like Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, taekwondo, etc.

We make it clear to them that despite being signed up for all the stuff their schoolwork still takes top priority.

We take part in various incentives by our base library that gives out different awards depending on how many books they read, and that's in addition to me reading to them at bedtime.

Glad my kids are grown and moved out of MN. If I still had school age kids I’d home school or leave the state.

I have middle schoolers now in public school and I do not believe it has changed any from when your children were in school or when you and I were, parents must be involved to get the product that is well-educated to choose your nursing home. My daughter is a little more liberal but she is heading in a music and theatre direction and my son is towards USAFA.

MAJ Byron Oyler - you are so wrong. I worked in the public schools here and I watched things go downhill for ten years. My former HS teacher, an ardent Democrat admits the schools are a disaster.

Lt Col Charlie Brown - Respectfully Ma'am, I dont think you caught my point in that, "parents must be involved to get the product that is well-educated to choose your nursing home." The education system in the US is horrible and if you pay for private your children lose out on numbers. My son was one of five hundred band members that made the regional band and less than one hundred got in. If I pay for private or homeschool, he is not going to get that kind of challenge. Parents make the difference.
