In a rare development at the U.S. military court in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, a so-called "forever prisoner" who has been held there for more than 18 years despite never being criminally charged has been cleared for release.
The Yemeni man in his mid-40s, known variously as Said Salih Said Nashir and Hani Saleh Rashid Abdullah, was accused of being an al-Qaeda operative. But Guantánamo's Periodic Review Board, which functions like a parole board, now says he is no longer a significant threat to the United States.

In My last job I worked with an MI Reservist that got recalled a couple of times for a free trip to Gitmo. He could not give details, He would shake His head and grumble though.

Yup. Actually, it's like Anybase, USA. In fact, if you lived there and weren't part of the incarceration mission you might not know it even exists!

About 30 percent of the 731 released Gitmo detainees since 2002 have either gone back to the Global War on Terror or have been suspected of doing so, some in leadership positions, and have cost American and other innocent lives. My question is, what about the remaining 70 percent we don't know about? Where are they and what are they doing? I do know that some of the detainees, after vetting, posed no threat to the US nor were of any further intelligence value and should have been released. But in my opinion, those were far less than 731.
