The federal government does need to be down sized. The department of Ed should just be eliminated, as a former teacher nothing good has come out of that department if anything it has made things worse.

That's one of those things that sounds good in a 30-second soundbite on the evening news. Fortunately, the problems will make themselves known very quickly if people stop and think critically about what that means in reality. The unfortunate flip side is that many people are simply unable or unwilling to stop and think critically about it.

I would argue that the country would be better off if the number of government employees is strategically increased. There are some areas of the government which are catastrophically understaffed.

Not only would it take longer to get things done, things will also be done with significantly more errors because the political "leadership" will be pushing for quantity over quality.
