Trump administration advances immigration crackdown on foreign student protesters

Rubio's comments come as several headlines have emerged regarding the detainment of foreign students in the United States due to their participation in pro-Palestine demonstrations.
This week, surveillance video emerged showing Tufts University graduate student Rumeysa Öztürk being arrested near her off-campus apartment in Somerville, Mass., by federal agents.
Öztürk, who was heading to meet friends for an Iftar dinner to break her Ramadan fast, was quickly surrounded by masked, plainclothes officers and taken into custody.
The visibly frightened Turkish-born PhD student raised her hands and let out a scream as the agents closed in on her and took her phone.
"I know this seems scary," one agent said. "We're the police."
A bystander replied, "Well, you don't look like it. Why are you hiding your faces?"
Öztürk, 30, is currently being held in a federal facility in Louisiana.
Last year, Öztürk co-authored an op-ed for the school's newspaper criticizing the university's response to the war in Gaza and demanding that the institution take steps to "hold Israel accountable for clear violations of international law."

A total embarrassment for our nation. Masked individuals grabbing a person off the streets of America and quickly whisking her away to a distant prison, no judicial hearing, a kidnapping.
Shame on this. No American should stand for this. I am writing my Congressional representatives now.

I cannot find anything anywhere that lists an actual charge, or attributes any activities to her other than an OP-ED in a student newspaper.

And not just detained locally to be questioned, but removed from MA to a detention center in Louisiana. I've seen no evidence that she broke the law in any way by urging the university to divest. She's not accused of any violence or even protesting from what we can tell.

not sure if this is a distraction from anything else, or just spending a whole news day on a "win".
Like when we spent a whole news day on arresting one gang member but it's a "big win" because he was an illegal.
We have a violent crime problem, and illegals contribute to about 1% of it.
And we have redirected hundreds of thousands in law enforcement from gang and violent crime task forces to immigration enforcement...
