Army officer promotion packets used to have a DA photo up until a few years ago. They were done away with, as was all metrics doing with race in the packet, in order to have promotions based on merit and performance.

The SECDEF has just done the same thing with the service academies selections, and suddenly race is needing to be part of the equation again.

I dont care either way. Either race is included, or its not. Make up your minds.

COL (Join to see) - It would be pretty easy to get a demo on all college enrolled, but it's tougher to find a demo on college aged regardless of enrollment.

SGM Jeff Mccloud Dont forget, that recruiting effort was at the expense of others.

SGM Jeff Mccloud Oh and don't forget how many recruits don't make it to the end of their second year of service. Nearly a quarter of all new enlisted, since 2022, fail to complete their first term of service.

My experience with the old cohort system was worse. Of the 23 newly graduated infantry Soldiers assigned to my platoon in 1989, only 8 were still in the Army at the end of their 3 year term of service. That was, and still is, a very sad statistic.

Fair competition. Because a true level playing field is scary as hell to those who actually lack merit...

So lots of discussion on the Post and as I started it - I will say that I have no special animus for our military academies - if anything, our military has been (in my lifetime) more equitable, more inclusive, than the society writ large that we defend. We have led the way. Not because we're supposed to be some platform for social justice (as opposed to warfighting) or due to any of the various DEI programs that may have been instituted in the past, but rather because we have strong values, and we adhere to them better than most other American institutions. As a result, more often than not... we do the right thing.
