Thankfully, we never had a problem with the struggles covered in the article. My wife actually signed her contract as a media specialist in Sumter, SC, before I took my oath. When we were at Upper Heyford in the UK, she had volunteered in the library at Croughton. The media specialist that was under contract decided not to honor the contract, they asked my wife if she would take the contract. We were lucky that the schools where we were stationed needed her skills.

Maj Robert Thornton One of the major reasons I refused to get married when I was in the military is because of PCS.

My wife understood we went where the air force needed us...period and that sometimes meant hardships...it is the lifestyle you sign up for.

I PCS'd twice on active duty. My then wife was an experienced dental office manager and had no problem with finding a job. We had no kids which made things easier too. But the moves did have issues with damaged household goods.
