One of the most dramatic standoffs in the history of the Cold War begins as the Soviet Union blocks all road and rail traffic to and from West Berlin. The blockade turned out to be a terrible diplomatic move by the Soviets, while the United States emerged from the confrontation with renewed purpose and confidence.

A story I heard from my father, After spending the entire War in the CBI, he just got stateside for awhile when they turned him around and sent him to Germany.

CSM Chuck Stafford Indeed. Through the years folks from other nations have mentioned their observations asked about so many Americans do not seeming to appreciate the freedoms we have to be active in self-governing in ways not possible in other nations. Many have learned a lot about our nation and appreciate our freedoms more than some of us who were born here. They are truly inspired and appreciative too of our Declaration of Independence and Constitution which is what raises the issue of American not taking a personal ownership responsibility position in government (at any level) - when so many are observed who do not even try to embody our nation's state values, principles, and ideals.
