They've had supply problems with their planes since the 1980's. In 1985, Iranians and civilian contractors were caught in a F14 parts smuggling ring. They had and were attempting to steal parts off the carrier I was stationed on.

Wondering how much "stuff" the military gets blamed for that civilian contractors do. Hopefully the leadership is not involved. We only had one issue I am aware of in one of my units regarding a high value item, but our records solved the problem on our end. Of course we did not ever know how the problem was resolved. Seems the part "miraculously" showed up again in the warehouse.

SGT Mary G. I don't know but I do remember watching a civilian worker being hauled off in cuffs. He tried to smuggle parts out in his tool bag and bucket.

It seemed more or less clear it was Iran, given the location of the ship. And Russia was in deep in Iran . . . maybe had airbases in Iran. Sure was some fancy flying in the movie!
