The Army is laying the groundwork for a sweeping expansion of its artificial intelligence capabilities, creating new career fields as the service races to prepare for what top officials see as a tech-driven future fight.
Service planners are moving to establish a new enlisted military occupational specialty focused on artificial intelligence and machine learning, designated 49B, according to internal service documents. A parallel track for warrant officers is also in the works, aimed at building out a cadre of technical experts embedded across formations.

Coming to the party a bit late here, but I had some thoughts on this. From my very limited exposure to AI and how it might be used, it almost seems like it would be better utilized as an additional specialty in a number of other fields, rather than it's own field. Sort of the idea of being airborne isn't an MOS in its own right, but enhances other fields. I can see it being applied in just about all fields. I'm sure that somebody has thought this out, but for the folks here that are smarter than I am in AI, what am I missing? Maybe I should look at it more like admin roles that are assigned to an infantry division--not the primary field of expertise, but there to support everybody? Thoughts?
