Well, as a naive 1st Lt at my first operational base in 1970 I was surprised when the Base Commander was suddenly transferred. It was a few weeks later that my wife told me via the OWC network why. Not much really has changed.

No, COL (ret) Owen Ray got off light when he assaulted his family and had a armed stand off with cops, in 2020, and the only throng the army did was process his retirement 2 years later

I am pretty certain with the way things are set-up, if that COL lost everything from this action, the family he assaulted would have lost everything as well. I am not defending his actions or punishment but more making a statement we need to ensure the family still gets military benefits if we strip them from the SM after 20years of service. The assaulted family already suffered and does not deserve to suffer again, losing all military benefits.

MAJ Byron Oyler - Yes, the Army does a decent job of taking the victims into consideration, when the issue hits national news.
Not even a reduction in grade to O5...which could have been done without even impacting high3, and at least sent the message that the Army will at least not completely ignore the crime.

SGM Jeff Mccloud - Actually, a reduction in grade would have an impact his retirement pay because he would revert to a "final pay" computation instead of High-3.
I agree that there should have been additional consequences, despite the PTSD claims, to just being forced to retire.
An officer reduced in grade as a result of misconduct will have been deemed not to have satisfactory held service in that grade. As such, their retirement is based on the final-pay rules of the lower grade (see 10 USC 1407* and AR 15-80*, para 4-1).
"Officers who are determined not to have served satisfactorily in the highest grade held and who first became members after September 7, 1980, and therefore would normally fall under the high-36 month average for calculation of retired pay, do not get the benefit of that averaging."

COL Randall Cudworth - IG complaints about him were dismissed as "unfounded" months before the armed assault and standoff.
Given the outcome, maybe those IG complaints were not completely "unfounded".

Domestic violence is (or should be) unacceptable at any rank or status.

We need to write laws that if someone who meets retirement criteria commits domestic violence, the family members do not lose when the SM loses everything. As things stand, we have to ask ourselves how many spouses tolerate this treatment because they dont want to lose everything?
