A study of a handful of 300,000-year-old teeth revealed an ancient human group had a mix of archaic and modern tooth features. "It's a mosaic of … traits never seen before — almost as if the evolutionary clock were ticking at different speeds in different parts of the body," study co-author MarĂa MartinĂłn-Torres, a paleoanthropologist at the Spanish National Research Center for Human Evolution (CENIEH), said in a statement.

Official Chinese Communist "science" is that Chinese Homo Sapiens evolved separately (and, naturally, in a superior way) from the rest of us, we mud people out of Africa. Then some Chinese geneticist traced a key genetic marker out of China into Central Asia well after the point when China's supposed separate evolution from Homo Erectus is supposed to have started. Oops! Naturally, said geneticist was "thanked" with lifetime home confinement for her contribution. I think a lot of this urgent and intensive study into the evolution of humans in East Asia is an attempt to rehabilitate their racist "separate and superior" theory.

There is a lot of room for misuse with unregulated new science and tech when it is loosed on the public, absent concern about abuse. It happens repeatedly, so it does not seem "accidental". Although it seems quite likely, these days, that governments are misusing it first, before businesses and the public get a hold of it and demand regulation.
