The VA Knew the SMC Calculator Was Broken — Where’s the Fix?
In May, the VA admitted that its Special Monthly Compensation (SMC) calculator — the one used to determine payments for some of our most seriously disabled veterans — had been broken for years.
VBA promised to review all impacted claims by July 31, 2025.
It’s now August 7.
No update. No report. No outreach. Nothing.
For veterans rated SMC-L through SMC-O, the underpayments could add up to thousands of dollars per month — and in some cases, per year. Yet VA leadership has gone silent since the deadline passed.
I broke down the OIG report, what VBA said they’d do, and what veterans should watch for next.

The fix? Lets start with not reducing VA staffing levels by 30,000 no later than 1 Oct.

Glad to hear they are going to fi the problem,. but it does noting for me, darn it. lol

Well, I for one am shocked it was "broken for years".
Im curious as to why now its a big deal? I Obviously, it is to those affected by the miscalculation, but where was this outrage three years ago? 10 years ago?
