I always intended to use space A after I retired, but for convenience sake, I have always gone commercial. Obviously, costs more, but at least I don't have to wait to go somewhere. On the other hand, when you go Space A, you fly with a better class of people. ; ).

I loved it here so much i have done two non consecutive tours here. I PCS next month, this go around has been 4 years. I have been here single, married, and with kids. First time around I was 18-21 and started single and left married. I returned this time with the addition of 1 child. I have traveled as often as work and my tiny pocketbook would allow. Winter does last forever and just beginning again. As others have said all year long there are festivals. I'm going to a pumpkin harvest festival next weekend with my daughter where they make displays out of squash, pumpkins, etc. This is a great base, now your units experiences may not be but Ramstein is a central locale for European travel and off duty time evens out what work throws at you.

My job actually is Space A. I am an AF Transportation Specialist. Space A is great at certain times of year. SUMMER is the worst period to travel because everyone want to take leave. Winter is better especially for retiree's as a category 6. Active duty is category 3, emergency leave is category 1. Everything you need to know about Space A can be found at http://www.amc.af.mil/amctravel/. There are the signup forms , contact info for different bases, rules for your specific situations. Be prepared to have money on reserve because lets face it planes break. Not the terminals fault, we are not aircraft maintenance, all we do is book, and take you to and from the plane. Never rely on Space A to get somewhere by a deadline. It will not happen. If anyone wants further info you can ask me or call your local AMC Passenger Terminal.
