Can't blame the President for everything, and despite my personal opinion of him, this IMO this doesn't rest on his shoulders. White nationalism predates Trumps 2016 run and win to become the POTUS.

Some argue that it gained traction with Pat Buchanan’s argument that declining white birth rates and an “immigrant invasion” will transform the United States into a third world nation by 2050, in his 2001 book, The Death of the West. These type of groups were certainly not happy with Obama becoming president, and are still upset over. Upset as those who oppose Trump. Did Trump's failure to denounce the racist chants, antisemitic chants by the alt-right white nationalist at the Charlottesville Rally, which ended up with the murder of a counter protester? The answer depends on who you ask. The use of "invasion" isn't an oversight or unintentional, either.

You either overtly oppose racism, silently oppose it, silently support it, or overtly support it, the latter three permit it to continue and grow. Trump regularly claims to be the most knowledgeable person in the world on a wide range of subject matter, but he is the world's master of the soundbite. I offer that he deliberately chose to say there were "good people on both sides," rather than condemn racism and white nationalism.

To counter this, white nationalists and their kind point to BLM, and say, "but Obama didn't condemn them." This overlooks the history of this country, and no, the Civil Rights Movement and Amendment didn't stop racism, it just went undercover. It also ignores the fact that the BLM movement was in response to George Zimmerman's acquittal for the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, not that BLM is an anti-Caucasian movement. Rather, it's opposition to murderers of African Americans going free.

Then you have Caucasian's who aren't racist, and don't support racism, who are offended by the term "white privilege." The offense IMO comes from some who aren't racist, and oppose racism, taking that term as an accusation of their being a racist. Also, it is taken as an accusation that they didn't work hard for what they have. Of course that's offensive, and it leads to silent opposition to racism, and may lead to silent racism. That isn't what white privilege means, and I'm not going to try to explain it here.

Racism exists in this country, and racists exist in all races. It is up to those that oppose racism to speak up, or remain silent and permit it to continue to grow. It's great that the Coast Guard became aware of this "alleged" white nationalist in their ranks, and took action.

At least they took action. I was at Ft Bragg when two white nationalists, or neo-Nazis murdered to African Americans in Fayetteville to "earn their spider web." Their racism was overt, and overlooked, until it was to late.

I recall being a SSG stationed at Ft Ord in the 80's. Another white NCO and I were standing outside the orderly room talking about our weekend plans, when a white SGT he knew joined our conversation. We were all in uniform, not that it matters. While I don't recall what led to him making a
racial slur, my friend took a step back as soon as the SGT said it, as he knew I had zero tolerance for it. I locked his heels and tore into him, and reported it to his NCOSC. He did well to avoid me from that day forward.

As a DS/SL/PSG/SGL/1SG, I never let Soldiers use racial slurs among themselves to each other. I'd point out another Soldier who wasn't the same race, and say he is hanging out with you, you all are joking and using the slur. One day, you'll be joking and he'll repeat what he has heard you say frequently, and you'll want to fight him. Who is at fault? Him for believing he is part of your group and your friend, and that is what you have been doing as friends. Is it his fault for never being told that it will never be okay for him to use the slur, whether by his friends using them, a parent, or anyone else? Or, is it your fault for permitting him to get comfortable with the slur being used, and connecting it to friendly banter?

I don't believe anyone should use a racial slur, but if one chooses to use a slur among members of their own race, that is their prerogative, and not the business of another race. I also believe that it doesn't grant permission for a member of another race to use it, nor do I believe the use of a racial slur of another race is ever acceptable.

Bottom line is we are all Americans, and the diversity of this Nation is a strength, not a weakness. We still have a long way to go to with regard to racism and discrimination, in general. It is up to every American to do their part to stop it, or be silent and permit it to continue.

As for the racists, it is rare that any argument will change their position, but not impossible. A prominent example is Derek Black, son of a grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan and creator of the radio shows and websites Stormfront and the companion KidsStormfront. If the once the heir apparent of the white nationalist movement can change, there is hope for this Nation.

Another rush to judgement, have you not learned anything from the Covington kids or Jussie Smollett ? Never mind waiting for all the facts not important as blaming the President carry on .
