MSgt Michael Bischoff: Can't do that, it's against the rules as was previously set forth in the push for major tort reform. That is why she is having a hard time getting more sponsors for the bill because the corporations are afraid this will reopen the entire tort reform they were able to get. The powers that be passed several tort reform bills which limited quite a bit of tort actions, including limiting amounts of total compensation, because way too many people were "getting rich" off of frivolous lawsuits against doctors, corporations, etc. The ABA, ATLA and several other groups tried to stop these tort reform bills both at the state and federal levels, but were unsuccessful. For the most part, no one cares about that issue until they actually have it happen to them, then they are on their bullhorns about how unfair the system is. You get what you vote in.

I've read stuff on the Feres doctrine for a long while, though that distinction I obviously hadn't run across...does seem kind of twisted, certainly, you know?

I know. One of my troops was misdiagnosed for months and he almost died. Could not do a thing about it

Well, that certainly stinks major big time, obviously...read what I said above about the Feres doctrine, I realize you'll likely have run across it...as I said above, the whole thing described here is certainly dumb, as well as wholly outdated and unfair, to say the least, you know?
