A group called the Fallen Hero Banner project, which honors Washington service members who have died in the line of duty, applied to march in the 2014 Seafair Torchlight Parade and was denied. They said they were told they weren't "the right fit."

If the organization says they are not the "right fit" in regards to their mission statement or vision. My question would be why do you think that is unfair? The organizers specifically stated that after careful review "we are celebrating summer, and joy and fun and while its admirable that Fallen Hero Banner applied, but we want to keep with out theme or this year of uplifting". Nowhere is it saying that Seafair Torchlit is being unfair, uncaring, but they do have the right to approve/disapprove as they wish. A good example would be in your own job in the Navy, would you want someone saying I qualified for the same position as you however I was denied because I answered a question wrong or because my uniform was not correct, or my hair was giving me issues, you see my point? Its subjective at best. Hope this clears up some things...just my thoughts.

Nice response; answering a question with a question. I did not give my opinion. But since you brought it up... When is it never a right fit to honor those that fell serving their country? Do we not give a moment of silence before sporting events when something tragic happens? Do we not pause the huge and glamorous openings of football games in the NFL with a singing of the national anthem? Did I not give a solid solution to the "not a good fit" problem instead of blasting them and coming up with excuses?
Second, with all due respect, your example was a hasty example that bears no resemblance to the problem at hand.
