Ouch! - with the good news being that no one was injured. In the meantime, perhaps the first CIC's place (and for sure others) will pick up the slack. GW's place = worth seeing along with with Mount Vernon (as well as so many other great places throughout the US and abroad).
A former co-worker's (that was Marine Recon w/daughter that recently graduated from the USMA) family stopped production when prohibition was announced and he has always thought about bringing it back! For sure my next conversation when we catch up.

In 1799, George Washington's distillery produced nearly 11,000 gallons, making it one of the largest whiskey distilleries in America at the time. Today, a faithfully reconstructed working distillery produces small batch spirits on site and is open to visitors.

So much interesting history w/a military spin. Had heard about Grant's occasional sip (and more) as well as the reputed quip by Lincoln about offering to send hooch to other officers if it would help their performance. Still learning other great quotes and proof (pun intended) history throughout the military-industrial complex, past, present, in the US and abroad.

Whiskey and the war: Alcohol played a role in the Civil War
Legend has it that when critics of Gen. Ulysses S. Grant complained to President Abraham Lincoln about Grant's drinking, Lincoln replied, "I wish some of you would tell me the brand of whiskey that Grant drinks. I would like to send a barrel of it to my other generals."
