Good and bad. The Army is not the USMC. We don't have the "rifleman first" mentality that they do. Same with the other branches. There are excellent soldiers and leaders who are SMEs in their MOS and can do their jobs but aren't "deployable". To boot these soldiers is a disservice to the Army. Likewise, we still have archaic functions in the Army that cause unnecessary injuries and medical complications (see; Airborne). We should keep our good soldiers who are still willing and able to serve because we will always need troops that are essential in non-deployed environments. Alternatively, take jobs/MOSs (like mine) that will never have more than a small percentage deployed at a single time and cut them out of the military and use DA civilians instead.
To be considered deployable, a soldier in the active, National Guard and Reserve must be:
-Administratively, legally and medically cleared for employment in any environment in which the Army is operating or could operate.
-Able to operate in austere areas or areas that regularly experience significant environmental conditions such as heat, cold or altitude that could exacerbate medical conditions.
-Able to carry and employ an assigned weapon.
-Capable of executing individual warrior tasks for his or her assigned mission.
-Able to operate while wearing body armor, helmet, eye protection, gloves and chemical or biological protective equipment.
-Capable of passing the Army physical fitness test or meeting the physical demands or tasks required for a specific deployment.

It is more you cannot deploy so get out policy. This captions intimates that an otherwise healthy Soldier who is fully qualified could be booted, that is not the case.
