There was supposed to be a live fire exercise when this was reported. It's difficult to believe that the Andrews facility that is used by the President frequently, would not have better security or plans for such an event.

We never had any excitement when I was a gate guard at the Navy Yard in Charlestown MA except for kids tossing snow balls at me because they knew I could not leave my post..
And a Navy LT who left his uniform at his date"s apartment when her husband barged in on them so he grabbed her bathrobe went down the fire escape and caught a cab back to the base. Needless to say I had a hard time believing him but called the Sgt of the Guard and let him handle this guy..

Always hated the Marine gate guards, but never felt like we could be any more secure than with that little box at the gates with two Jarheads in it. According to theory, they never lost a gate while protecting our great Navy in the CONUS. :)

Just this morning I heard a report that 84% of Americans don't have faith that the government can protect us from terrorist attack. A shooter, terrorist or not, at Andrews (isn't that the base where Air Force One flies in and out of?) should raise that percentage a bit, don't you think? What chance has Main Street when a military base can't be secured?
