This is great news! Shindand, Afg was originally the designated training base for this effort until the decision came down to pull out by the end of 2014. There were a LOT of brand new facilities built and started which I'm wondering what happened to (I left at the beginning of 14).

I was on a SAV team traveling all over the southern part of Afghanistan, as I was set to depart Oct 2014 alot of plans were just dumped because there was no clear plan. They might pull completely out or leave this many troops, at one time there were 4 different scenarios being floated. I too would like to know what Khandihar and BAF look like now.

I heard Kandahar is not fully closed at this time but I would like to see what happened to Shindand. I was in BAF back in 2002 when we were bare bones, and then got to see it 12 years later (huge difference!). I can't imagine BAF will ever go away as the Afghans are more concerned about keeping their capabilities near Kabul instead of spreading out. They were always worried about the Commander's in the farther off bases turning on them.
