...and, that's why we need to leave the place to itself.
No one should be surprised by any of this; What...do people really think there was a State Department official in every OP, firebase, or FOB? Did Americans really think that a couple months of "language and cultural familiarization" training was enough to turn the average NCO or officer into an expert on FID? It wasn't obvious from the get-go that we'd stuck our mitts into a hornets' nest, and that we were trying to figure out a reason to stay just so it wouldn't be obvious we needed to go?
We didn't "know what we were doing" because NO ONE knows what they're doing when it comes to dealing with Afghanistan...except the Afghans that is.
