What can happen is severalthings:
1.) After a review of their four year record at the academy, they will make a recommendation to either dismiss or retain and commission.
2.) If they dismiss, they can send them into the enlisted ranks as a SrA in whatever field the AF needs, just like an individual going through Boot Camp. OR they can dismiss from the Academy and have them pay back thier education which is pretty doggone expensive. As seniors they should no better than this in my opinion.

Back in my day, you generally went to the enlisted ranks if you failed out...but were otherwise honorable. In the case of punitive expulsion...I'd imagine you'd end up owing the Air Force some money; had a classmate end up in that situation to the tune of around a quarter million.

The responses below are precisely the options that the AF has. They will do a complete records review, interviews, etc and then make a decision. I don't want to make assumptions because we don't get all the details.
