Eliminating rear support positions that can be accomplished elsewhere, is a good thing. But you can't eliminate those jobs tied directly to the mission, and those should be most of the folks downrange.

I agree with a hard look at positions that are downrange and pulling back when you can. As a deployed commander at one time I remember being 5 or 6 deep in one specialty when I only really needed a SNCO and two Airmen to get it done without burning them out and then being short position wise on other critical positions. I believe we deploy numbers based on old models. In seventeen years technology has changed a lot of ways of doing business and we might not necessarily need all of those positions we needed back then. I do agree with 179's versus 365's to the war zones. I hope we keep the 365's in places like Korea etc. Glad they are at least looking at it but our Airmen have to remember that the mission comes first and that is what we signed up for.
