Be interested to hear our Army bothers and sisters take on this. Specifically:
"It is time to reorient US military policy away from the use of conventional ground forces and toward more reliance on airpower (land- and sea-based) SOF, indigenous ground troops, and robust ISR. The old and traditional methods of war have not worked. It’s time to change."

This article centers around air power coupled with ancillary military force. At what point do you defeat the enemy by either negating their will to fight or by total annihilation? Can we rely on indigenous ground troops? Model does seem to have utility for ISIS interdiction...but cockroaches are resilient. Thanks for sharing Lt Col Christensen.

Learning lessons from combat is an essential part of the military art. Militaries anxious to avoid the old cliché of fighting the last war study carefully the conduct of previous armed conflicts, looking for new knowledge they can apply to the future.

I'm sure the Army has a different perspective but even if they do I recall recently seeing an article on tank warfare and questions about whether it is still relevant (can't recall if was on RP or somewhere else). Either way, the fact is that technology changes how we conduct warfare. Pre WWII the battleship was the premier warfighter, today they don't exist except as museums. Troops in contact still exists, but not at the level of decades ago and the Air Force hasn't had an air to air engagement since the 70s. Technological advancements have changed, and continue to change, the way we conduct war.
