I think it makes sense. If we bring back pilots to fly that have retired in the last 5 years then it will work. They can get spun up pretty quick in a trainer aircraft to train future pilots. If we bring back pilots to fill staff positions and let the actual current pilots return to the cockpit then that will work as well because they don't have to get their wings dusted off. However, if we bring back folks that have retired and are making serious money on the outside and have done their duty they will come in with attitude and may poison the minds of the young aviators they are there to train. What people forget is that when officers separate or retire they still hold their commissions unless they resign it. If they resign their commission they give up the retirement which is a leash until they are 65. Therefore, they are on the hook if Uncle Sugar needs them back.

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth not sure minds could get more poisoned than they are currently being. From what my buddy going through flight school is telling me, "the glories of the civilian world" are already permeating the ranks. Piss poor leadership methods don't help - Gens telling pilots that if he catches wind of them talking to airlines he will submarine their career and the like. Morale is lower than it needs to be to produce good pilots, sadly.

SSgt (Join to see) - Agreed...I work on a Pilot training base and off the books conversations are about the airlines among the senior pilots.

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth - and who can blame them? Awesome pay & get to do what your job says you're supposed to be doing - flying planes! It sucks. It really does.

SSgt (Join to see) The Air Force has to do something. They are hemorrhaging pilots at an alarming rate.

PO3 Steven Sherrill they need to realize that pilots are there to fly, not be gophers, which many of them end up being because the frames are in disrepair. It is a horrible circle jerk. No parts to maintain, therefore maintainers can't fix the birds. The birds aren't fixed, therefore the pilots can't fly. There's a manning issue on the maintainer side, too, if I recall correctly.
