According to the story, the "hard labor" is basically "Extra Duty" pulling weeds and cutting grass. He should be mopping parking lots with his tongue.

Crap judgement is what happened here. You shouldn't have to explain what sentencing guidelines are for rape.
Dishonorable discharge had a lasting effect yes, but I'm thinking rape does too. I was abused as a child and I'm still all messed up in the head decades later. I don't want to hear "I've done my time so I'm free". I've done my time and I'll never be free

Officer = Non Commissioned Officer to the press. To me the conduct of a direct supervisor in these circumstances is so much worse due to the amount of trust that needs to be present for junior Soldiers to work with the NCOs appointed to lead them. Violation of this trust should merit punishment that is significant rather than "credit for good service" that may not have been so good.
