I’ve thought about this quite a bit. I’ve seen completely stupid things done by service members in uniform that we’re just as cringeworthy if not worse. The issue that elevates this to outrage by many is that this has gotten over 2 million views. It puts the Air National Guard and the Air Force in an embarrassing light on a national stage. It reinforces stereotypes and brings shame on those serving or who have served. They’ve not only embarrassed themselves, they’ve embarrassed a whole branch of the military.

Like many have stated, it’s an embarrassment to the Air National Guard. As an officer you’re supposed to memorize that, on last minute notice or not. There’s a tome and place to joke around but not for a re enlistment in my opinion.

It's an embarrassment to the Air Force. The Officer and SNCO both let the service down.

One word...UNPROFESSIONAL. As a commander I would bend pover backwards to do a reenlistment for an Airman to make it special but I would have drawn the line on this. WHy would you use a kids toy to reenlist in the worlds most lethal military...just don't get it.

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth - I didn't have it memorized on my first re-enlistment, but it isn't that long, and you get used to saying it after a few decades!

This might have been the first (and last) time this officer gave the oath. Even cue cards or a teleprompter out of view would be better than this. But the puppet...what on earth was this woman thinking. They should have given her and her toy a discharge ceremony right after. Unbelievable! Why aren't they in dress uniforms? A little informal in my opinion.

SPC (Join to see) - I have reenlisted folks in ABU's and full battle rattle before. Not a problem. However, the puppet was crazy. I would have never agreed to that.

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth - I guess the uniform depends on who is administering the oath and wartime may allow flexibility. The entire puppet show should have been done in a different setting which may have allowed all of them to walk away unscathed if this was really done for her children.
Another thought is we don't know how much the original video was edited. There could have been titles at the beginning that were cut out that might have explained the situation. Only the person who shot the video would know the answer to that.
From personal experience I have had many of my photos and videos cropped and re-edited then reused without permission so anything is possible with digital editing. If it was me the original never would have reached any other person and only shown to a private audience. Somebody was careless. They might be just as careless if they are in control of something that really matters. How scary would that be?
