Life, now as then, appears too complex for individuals to stand alone. Like the Romans and the Judeans before them, We the People want a king. Someone to take responsibility. Someone to be our scapegoat. Sadly, those we elevate are never worthy. Every hero falls and those who cling to them, fall with them. I can only hope that someone, somewhere will rediscover the Constitution and the principles of individual liberty and personal responsibility on which it is built. Then again, for at least some brief span of time, We the People will soar with angels

This also struck me as germane, he was obviously the basis for the name of Cincinnati, OH, and has frequently been compared in the context of analogy to Washington, who, though he had his darker side, esp. one instance of persecuting a slave who'd escaped from him, and was never caught, as well as supposed involvement with a female slave, na!ed Venus, just as Jefferson is generally acknowledged to have done now, Sally Hemmings, did at least basically engage in the same level of self-abnegation, to his credit, on that score, as to relinquishing his power, and refusing to ne na!ed a monarch during the Revolution...he family of the descendant of Venus has had an oral history for generations that they ate, in fact, all the descendants of Washington, I believe the last name of the son was Ford, I think, I can't recall the first name at the moment, I'm afraid...
