Always depends on who is paying. Most of my wife and my prescriptions are at zero cost to me from ExpressScripts. What I have found is that they send them out early and eventually you have more than you need. I have complained, but normally, that gets me a late prescription. Even though we pay nothing, it would be interesting how much is tossed due to this practice. When someone passes away, they keep the prescriptions coming until the right person notifies them. No telling how many of these groups of pharmaceutical companies send them out and collect the taxpayer cash.

I wish this surprised my. I have been in out of prescriptions with the VA, and it sometimes seems like they dump them on me to get rid of them. They started giving out several month doses at a time and I wondered about something like this.

Side note: Not a VA hit piece. Just my observation.

Drug companies are big business. Every time I go to the doctor, I see a drug rep. What they spend on advertising alone is ridiculous. How many pens, pads, clipboards, and backpacks and luggage have you seen with a drug name on it. I can't tell you the thousands of commercials I have seen with the phrase ask your doctor about... Patients do not have the medical knowledge in general to request drugs they know little about other than a commercial That is waste enough without throwing things away.
