Politics has no place in winning wars.

MacArthur in Korea is a perfect example. Had he been left alone, the inventor of the hamburger, Fat Boy Kim, would never even have been heard of. Vietnam don't even get me started. That was a cluster from LBJ on.

The ROE's we have been given over the years have cost us dearly. Maybe time to rethink or get the hell out.

War's the ultimate extension of politics. They're inseparable.

Is it really that the General's forgot how to win wars or the fact that when we go to war the Generals hands get tied behind their backs because American want a clean war. I lean more to the fact that since camera's are everywhere if a General makes one mistake and 1 civilian is killed they get crucified. In ww2 American thru all their weight into the war effort, yet never saw the results of carpet bombings. I don't think it is fair to blame the generals, they have to fight a war like a one legged man in a ass kicking contest.

The Current Operational Environment isn't one of unrestricted maneuver warfare. It's COIN. In those campaigns the terrain is more human than geographical and civilian casualties are counterproductive as they push undecided survivors towards the enemy. I recommend reading up on the Brits successfull counterinsurgency during the Malayan Emergency. It's not so much that their hands are tied. But that not all wars are the same.

"Yet here’s what too few of those Americans appreciate, even today. War created that swamp in the first place."

I agree with this quote from the article. War has weakened us in many aspects. I do hope to find a resolution soon. I'm not sure if increasing military activity is the answer.
