Is Bernie an American? Does Bernie have one Helluva a following? Do not discount what America was versus what it will become. If you do that you lose influence and I for sure want to guide away from many parts of socialism. Don't lose influence, rather listen, understand, and inform.

It sounds like a nice concept but breaks down pretty quickly as soon as you talk any specifics.

Pro life vs pro choice
For death penalty vs against death penalty
Support Gun rights vs want to reduce, inhibit or eliminate gun rights
Support stopping illegal immigration vs supporting open borders
Support extreme vetting of refugees vs let them in with little knowledge of allegiances or intent
Smaller government vs larger government (welfare state)
Support balance budgets vs deficit spending
Nationalism vs globalism
school choice vs government controlled schools only

Just a starter list. The chasm is pretty wide and deep in many areas.

Once again - you will NOT agree on everything although we have to live and work together on a daily basis. So understand if you are pro-life and I am pro-choice we ultimately allow the system and our votes to settle the score. Although we may find common ground on the death penalty. We have to be more evolved as a society to look past any ONE issue.

SFC Chad Sowash The problem isn't it is any one issue. The list above is 9 quick ones and you could make a reasonable argument that those 9 items break right down party (world view) lines. The first position being more conservative the second being more liberal (Rep vs Dem, if you will).

You can create a list we can all agree on at a very high level.
Clean air
Clean water
Good schools
Justice for all
etc.

As soon as you start to define those terms the entire thing breaks down.

Good schools for example is school choice for some, others tow the NEA line on public schools only. You have home schooled kids in the mix. On curriculum, some want the three R's others want sex education and condoms on bananas.

Provide me a list of items that would fall into the category of "there are more items that unite us than divide us." I think you will find it not very easy to do and they will break down as soon as you start to peel away at the onion.

The breakdown is your vote counts. Pretty simple - you should vote for individuals (not parties) who best align with your views. Democracy takes over unless you're in a situation where Congress (lowest approval rating of all) is literally doing nothing. That's a much larger issue. So, the problem aren't the issues.
