That article is misleading, yes in California or New York city $14.00 an hour maybe low, but in the mid west $14 and hour is not bad for starting pay, but then again, $500,000 where I live will get you 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and a three car garage on a beautiful lot, if these HGTV show are correct, $500,000 in California gets you a crappy 1200 square ft house in an old subdivision. But I can say allot of the younger generation does not want to do manual labor anymore. Most of the farmers in my area have switched to more automated system or hire migrants. They simply cannot find locals who want to get sweaty and dirty for a pay check.

They want something that has meaning to it, not being a drudgery.

Americans, like me, want “careers”; not “jobs” or “work”! “Work” is something that has t be done. “Job” is smethng one might dread doing, but it too has to be done , and is likely not to have any chances for advancement. A dead end job. A “career” is doing the work that you love to do, and has chances for advancement and benefits. Jobs like McDonalds don’t offer such chances. ~ Just saying.
I myself am at CSIO, CIO, CEO, CFO, COO level and do not want a “job”.
