You can take down all the monuments and markers you want! That still does not change the fact that it happened. History is there for a reason and that is to teach us to learn from our mistakes not repeat them.

I don't endorse treason or sedition in any form. However if you want to put it in that context we all are traitors. We stood up and became traitors when we defied the British crown.

You know I have really watched what is going on with this whole tear down the statues thing and I have got to tell you that It really has become tragic. You have two sides of the story. One that wants to protect history by defending the statues and another side that wants them torn down. Both sides are missing the real picture here. When did we go from a society that talks about peace and love for our fellow man to one that spews violence as a way of handling things. Look! I seem to recall while serving in the military the only color that was recognized was green. There was none of this racism crap and if there was evidence of that it was quelled real quick. I had brothers of all colors and races and I would give my life for any of them. But I've seen a shift in the way soldiers of today think, and it saddens me that they call you brother while your in service and then turn around and call you an enemy after you get out. There will never be understanding with this way of thinking. There will never be peace. I was part of something special once now I am wondering what went wrong.

Very true. Monuments are not made by the dissenting party to teach about the "mistakes of the past and how not to repeat them," monuments are made by the dissenting party to honor, idolize, and sympathize their cause. Otherwise there wouldn't be issues of Confederate sympathizers trying to push revisionist history showing them to have been the "good guys." I have yet to see historic monuments, built by the losing parties who still believe they are/were correct, aimed to discredit their OWN actions.

I'm assuming you are referring to History as of in, the study of the past. While you have a point, we have to consider the perspective of which the person observing history is "learning from the mistakes not to repeat." For example: Are they learning NOT to repeat the human tragedy mistake of the Transatlantic Slave Trade and Jewish Holocaust? Or are they learning from the mistakes that lead to the overall failure of those who used those tragedies to further their cause, so the reader can replicate the action in the future, in hopes they can do better. As we've seen in more modern times, SOME things from History are used to rationalize killing and discriminating against other humans in the modern day; but because its in history, its considered "acceptable" by some, rather than "teaching us to learn from our mistakes and not repeat them."
"I don't endorse treason or sedition in any form. However if you want to put it in that context we all are traitors. We stood up and became traitors when we defied the British crown."
While you may have a point, you and I would only be the beneficiaries. Even then, us being successful hypocrites does not make later acts by our own States any less of a crime.
The Confederate States of America did not win the War they started, were graciously allowed to continue living after having taken the lives of thousands of GOOD American Patriots, YET still have the audacity to wave their traitorous battle flags, and display their traitor praising statues in pure MOCKERY of Old Glory and those who gave their lives to give us what we have today. While I will always Support and Defend their Constitutional Right to do so as individuals, I will never advocate for it to occur on government (taxpayer) funds or property.
Just my opinion though.

I always accept the fact the other people may have a different view than mine. The fact is, neither you or I were alive when these acts were committed. I don't believe that I nor my children should be subjected to the violence that Is happening. I believe In equality for all. But the fact still remains and your right some view things In a somewhat twisted fashion. They don't look at things and learn from the mistakes of the past, they use It to forward their agendas and they weren't present when these things happened. All I am saying here Is there has to be a better way. I want a better country for my children to grow up In. God Bless America and it's people!

The evidence is in the article, the statues are going up on private land not public property paid by tax payers
