This just makes me think of this quotation for some reason..

"The day the soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help them or concluded that you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership."

Colin Powell

Or as my buddy Kelly Morgan said: "They stop talking to you for two reasons. Either they think you're going to lie to them, or you're worthless. Either way, you lose."

I was a Non-Com at Fort Stewart, GA from 76-79 when VOLAR was new and there was virtually no way to get rid of the chaff. Concrete block barracks with no glass or screens in the windows, shower facilities with no roof. Military life can be hard at times, it's to be expected. There is always a percentage of troops who believe they're in Hell, wherever the Post...

If this Soldier thinks that Ft. Hood is bad, maybe her CoC should send her to Khost, AFG for a class in perspective.  That would tighten up her shot group ricky tick!

It sounds like a whiny 20 year old who needs to go "flip burgers". According to her she would make more money doing that.  Forget the free housing, health care, and free food.

SGM Stephen Taylor - I don't respond to whining. Thats what children do. Constructive criticism and ideas are what I respond to.

Captain that's what I said everyone's got a problem except the one in the mirror and if you treat your soldiers like soldiers and not like kids you'll Get a better response from someone who would do anything for the army MAJ (Join to see) -

CPT (Join to see) - You are right about one thing the Armed Services is not a job it is a life style. It was one of the greatest things I've did in my life. I got out because the honor of serving my country was not enough for me to stay anymore. That is the only reason most people stay in the service it not because the moneys good.
With that said I may be an exception but I'm sure what you just described is not the rule. I lived and survived just fine once I exited service. I currently have a job that is very competitive and has many fringe benefits including many things I didn't get in the Marines.
Again I agree that we are in the military and it is a lifestyle. But as a tax payer I think we can do better for the active duty members. Seems the Air Force has figured it out I hope the other services follows.

1500 and more for under E4? I didn't even see 2,000 a month my entire enlistment. Highest base pay was around 1,980 a month and that's base, then the taxes and charges come out.. with how lenient and liberal it's all become, these soldiers have it made, and let me hear one of them complain about anything at all..
